| Rs 15,00,001 – 25,00,000 | 20% |

How the calculator works
- Assessable income is your salary for the months worked, plus festival allowance, bonus and your employer's SSF or PF contribution.
- Retirement deduction: your and your employer's SSF, PF and CIT contributions are deducted up to the lowest of the amount paid, one third of assessable income, or Rs 5,00,000 if you are in SSF (Rs 3,00,000 for PF, CIT and other approved funds).
- Insurance deduction: life insurance up to Rs 40,000, health insurance up to Rs 20,000 and private building insurance up to Rs 10,000 a year.
- Tax is charged slab by slab on what is left. Women with only salary income get 10% off the total.
- Monthly TDS is the yearly tax divided by the months worked, the amount your employer usually withholds each month.
Example
Salary Rs 1,00,000 a month for 12 months, no retirement fund: taxable income is Rs 12,00,000. Tax is 1% on the first Rs 10 lakh (Rs 10,000) plus 10% on the next Rs 2 lakh (Rs 20,000), so Rs 30,000 a year or Rs 2,500 a month. The same salary with SSF on a basic of Rs 60,000 pays no 1% tax and gets a Rs 2,23,200 retirement deduction, which brings the tax down to about Rs 12,080.
Frequently asked questions
Is there still a separate slab for married couples?
No. From FY 2083/84 everyone uses the same table, so you do not need to choose single or couple.
Do SSF contributors pay the 1% tax?
No. The 1% on the first Rs 10 lakh is the Social Security Tax, and it is not charged if you contribute to the Social Security Fund. Choose SSF above and the calculator removes it.
What counts as basic salary for SSF and PF?
SSF (11% from you, 20% from your employer) and PF (10% each) are calculated on basic salary, not on gross pay with allowances. Check your payslip for the basic amount.
Why is my employer's contribution added to my income?
The law treats the employer's SSF or PF contribution as part of your pay. It is then deducted again as a retirement contribution, within the one-third limit and the fixed cap (Rs 5 lakh for SSF, Rs 3 lakh for PF and CIT).
Is my salary sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs inside your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
