How to scan a document with your phone
- Tap Choose photos or Use camera and pick the pages you want. On a phone the camera opens directly; on a computer you can drag files onto the box.
- Tap a page to crop the paper edges, rotate it upright and apply Enhance, Grayscale or B&W text. For a bill photographed on a counter, Enhance is usually enough.
- Reorder or delete pages, then choose A4, Letter or Fit to photo.
- Tap Create PDF, check the preview in the page, then download the file. Nothing is downloaded until you ask for it.
What this tool does
Photos to PDF
- Combine up to 60 photos into one document, in the order you choose.
- Crop the paper, rotate a sideways bill, and brighten a photo taken under a shop light.
- Export A4 or Letter with no margin, a small margin, or a page that matches the photo exactly.
- Preview every page before you commit to the download.
PDF to JPG or PNG
- Render every page at 150, 200 or 300 DPI.
- Preview each page as an image, then download one page or the whole set as a ZIP.
- Use JPG for WhatsApp, email and online forms; use PNG when the text must stay perfectly sharp.
Photo to PDF on Android, iPhone or a computer
- Android: Chrome and Samsung Internet open the camera straight from the Use camera button. Each shot is added as a new page, so you can scan a three-page bill in one go.
- iPhone: Safari uses the camera the same way. If a photo will not load, the file is probably HEIC — set Settings → Camera → Formats to Most Compatible, or share the photo as a JPEG first.
- Laptop or desktop: drag a folder of photos onto the box, or use Choose photos. The crop editor works with a mouse and the preview frame opens inside the page.
- No app: this is a web page, so there is nothing to install and no account to create.
JPG or PNG: which should you choose?
Both formats are accepted almost everywhere. The difference is size against sharpness.
- JPG compresses the image, so a 200 DPI A4 page is usually 100–250 KB. That is the right choice for WhatsApp, email and most online forms.
- PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which makes text edges crisper and files several times larger. Use it for a stamp, a signature or a page you will print again.
How much resolution does a scan need?
- 150 DPI is fine for reading on a screen or sending a quick copy of a bill.
- 200 DPI is the safe default for invoices, receipts and office submission.
- 300 DPI is for small print, stamps and pages that will be printed again.
Higher resolution is not automatically better. A 300 DPI scan of a shaky photo is still a shaky photo, and large files are slower to send from a shop phone. Start at High and go up only when the office asks for it.
Why your documents never leave your phone
Most online PDF tools upload your file to a server, convert it there and send the result back. That means your supplier bill, rent agreement or citizenship copy sits on someone else's computer, even if it is deleted later. This scanner takes a different route: the browser itself does the work with Canvas and JavaScript.
- Nothing is sent to NanoKhata. There is no upload step and no storage bucket.
- It works offline. After you use a converter once, your browser keeps a copy, so the next scan works without internet.
- No account, no watermark, no upsell. The tool does not ask for an email or a card.
- Closing the tab clears the pages. Photos live in memory only.
Made for shop paperwork in Nepal
A kirana shop collects paper all day: supplier bills, VAT invoices, delivery slips, cheques, rent receipts and warranty cards. Photograph them in a minute at the counter, keep one PDF per month, and the paperwork stops growing in a drawer.
If you also want those bills in your books, NanoKhata's khata app records the expense on the same date, keeping cash and QR collections separate. Our guides on tracking shop expenses and delivery slips show how the paper and the ledger fit together.
Tips for a sharp scan
- Use daylight or a ceiling light. A hard shadow across the bill is harder to fix than a slightly dark photo.
- Fill the frame with the paper, but keep all four corners inside the photo.
- Press the paper flat. A curled receipt scans better under a book for a second.
- Keep the phone parallel to the page. The crop tool can trim the edges, but it cannot repair heavy perspective.
- Use Enhance for printed bills and B&W text for typed letters. Avoid B&W on handwriting, where the thin strokes disappear.
Privacy note: this page is a static file. The conversion libraries are served from nanokhata.com and run in your browser — no document, file name or page count is transmitted anywhere. For offline use, the page saves a copy of itself and its converters in your browser cache, which you can clear at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Is this photo to PDF scanner free?
Yes. The scanner is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. NanoKhata only asks for an account if you want to save a scanned bill as a shop expense in the khata.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The images are read and converted inside your browser. Nothing is sent to NanoKhata or to any third party, and you can keep scanning with mobile data turned off.
Does the scanner work offline?
Yes, after you have used a converter once. The browser keeps a cached copy, so cropping, PDF export and PDF to image conversion keep working without internet on later visits.
Can I put several photos into one PDF?
Yes. Add up to 60 photos, rotate and crop each page, remove what you do not need, then export one PDF in A4, Letter or fit-to-photo size.
How do I convert a PDF to JPG on my phone?
Open the PDF to images tab, select the PDF, choose JPG or PNG and a resolution, then convert. Every page is shown as a preview with its own download button, and a longer PDF can be saved as one ZIP.
What image quality should I choose?
High is about 200 DPI and is right for bills, invoices and forms. Max is about 250 DPI for small print or official submission. Standard keeps the file small enough to send on WhatsApp.
Why can't I open my iPhone HEIC photo?
Some browsers cannot decode HEIC files. On iPhone, open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible, or open the photo in Photos and share it as a JPEG before adding it here.
Is the PDF good enough for official use?
For most shop records, invoices and applications, yes. The export is a normal A4 PDF at around 200 DPI. Check the requirement of the office you are submitting to if it asks for a specific size or colour scan.
Is there a watermark on the PDF?
No. The PDF contains only your scanned pages. NanoKhata does not add a logo, a footer or a page limit message to the file.
Can I scan Nepali or handwritten documents?
Yes. The scanner does not read or translate text, so any language works, including Nepali and Hindi. Printed Devanagari comes out clean with Enhance or B&W text. Handwriting stays visible but thinner strokes can fade in B&W, so use Enhance for pen notes.
Scan now, record it in khata later. NanoKhata keeps cash, QR, udharo and expenses in one place, in Nepali or English, with offline entry.
